Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a white figure streak through the trees. That scared me. What in the hell...?
My rifle unconsciously swung up and pointed outward. I was spooked. What was that? A noise, behind me, rustling leaves. I spun on my heels. Nothing.
My eyes narrowed as I searched out this odd flash of white. There it was again! It streaked through the trees like a bolt of lightening. And just like lightening, it was gone. What kind of animal...was it even an animal? I had no idea. And the color...it was like nothing I've ever seen. It wasn't just white; it was a paerly white with a silver undercast, something definitely not found in nature.`And it was big; big and fast, that much I knew. Was it aggressive? Did it want to eat me?
My only response was to cock my rifle.
And then there was another noise - directly above me. I looked up and something heavy and as big as me dropped ontop of me. All a hundred and forty pounds, I bet.
The impact sent me crumbling top the forest floor, my gun clattering away somewhere unreachable. "Ah!"
We struggled for a few moments before I realized what I was fighting was not an animal at all. Human hands groped at my clothes, a palm shoved my face into the ground to try to restrain me. Hands grabbed around my wrists and pinned them to the floor. human legs straddled my waist. I looked up into the face of my attacker and nearly lost my breath.
I quit struggling immediately once I saw the pearly white, giant wings attached to the girl's back. She looked nothing like Talon with her flowing blonde hair, piercing blue eyes, and pale skin, but the sight of her brought back the memories I've been trying to get rid of.
I missed Talon; I missed her so much in fact that I cried when I woke up that morning when I found directions back to my camp. Hell, I've cried every morning since then. I couldn't seem to let her go. She'd stay with me forever.
The girl above me was from Talon's tribe, I was sure of it. What other tribe was around here. I wondered where Talon was.
"What are you doing here, hunter?" Her fingers pressed into my wrists and I yelped. She felt like she had enough strength to break every bone in my body.
It took me a moment to get over the shock of seeing another winged girl. I stumbled over my words. "H-h-hunting."
"Hunting what?" she barked. "Us? we did nothing to you! She even saved your worthless life! Why can't humans be greatful? I told her they'd come back and kill us all. Is that what your here to do? To kill us? To hunt us down?"
My manly stubbornness reared up and I shouted,"No! I was out hunting for deer. I didn't even know you were hear! I'd never hurt any of you girls."
"Shut your mouth! You lie! Maybe I should hunt 'you'!"
One of her hands unclasped from my wrist and she raised it to strike me and I cringed back, bracing myself. I knew how much force they possessed.
An old, worn leathery hand grabbed a hold of th girl's wrist above me. The girl looked up with fury, which quickly melted into recognition.
The worn hand was connected to an even older looking woman with tanned skin, browner than Talon's, and sleek black hair. She had giant raven wings, those too looked worn and over used. I wondered if she could even fly. She eyes were a dark onyx, so black and hollow they seemed to pierce right through you. She glanced down at me momentarily and it was as if she were reading my whole life story like a book, as if she were seeing my soul.
"Abira..." the blonde girl squeaked. Even before the girl said the elder's name, I knew who she was. Talon had spoken of her leader, described her and what she was like. I knew this old woman was the tribe's leader. She had that aura about her. She looked as though she was a fierce warrior back in her time. The mark of an unshakable ruler.
Abira spoke for once and I instantly wanted to pay attention and hang off of every word she said. Her voice rang out strong and authoritative.
"Galena," Abira snapped. "Do not harm this boy. You know what to do with intruders. Bring him back to the village and we will decide what to do with him. Now, please."
     "Abira...he's the hunter-"
"I know exactly who he is. Now do as I requested, please. Do not be difficult, child."
Galena threw a hated glance down at me and then back up at her elder. She finally grunted. "Yes, Abira..."
Abira smoothed a hand over Galena'a hair. "Good, child. Thank you." And then she walked off in the eastern direction.
Apparently, I was hunting not even a mile out of their little village. Or camp. Or whatever you would like to call it. Whatever it was, it was definitely their home and it was definitely built for them.
Tents were set up and hunched just about everywhere. There really wasn't a rhyme or reason to the way the camp site was set up. Except that every tent seemed to circle oddly around a baby blue shaded mobile home like a crowd surrounding an interesting street performer. Without a doubt, I knew Abira lived there. After all, she was their superior and she only deserved the best.
I could only see the village from afar as Galena hastily shoved me forward. As I got closer, I began to hear the hustle and bustle of the residents who lived there. I could even see them now. Child-like laughed floated through the air, mixing and mingling with mild conversations and chatter. I've heard the sound before, of course. The low babble of a crowd or any civilization, for that matter. But the sound seemed melodious and had an enchanting allure to it. It drew you in, made your ears perk up and beg to hear more. I've only had this happen to me once and that was whenever Talon would open that pretty little mouth of hers and speak. I remembered her voice; like cold mountain water flowing over rocks. Strong, beautiful, magestic.
The nearest sound I could hear was the children's laughter. It also sounded pretty and innocent. Wonderful.
And then there they were, streaking through the forest like gazelles. They flashed past me without a single glance, one little girl chasing the other. They couldn't have been over seven -years -old. They actually startled me and I had to take a steep back. They were each so beautiful, their wings each differing from color; one set was navy blue and shiny, the other set was a pale pink, like the color of washed out salmon. Pretty. Exciting. Perfect.
I stood their a moment too long. Galena roughly shoved me forward again, barking out a command to move on. I did. I wanted to see more.
We finally stepped out of the forest brush and into the campsite. I was stunned. It seemed as though every woman who lived here was out and about. And they each had a different set of wings. The colors amazed me, ranging from the deepest sets of black to the shiniest color of pearly white. And all the colors in between. Hues of purple, white streaked with grey, yellow with green, baby blue, pink, orange, gold, silver...I couldn't begin to describe all of the colors. More than a rainbow, I'm sure. I wondered if each woman had a unique color, just like a human has a unique finger print. I decided to ask Talon if I'd ever get to see her again.
The women, each one that I saw, was inhumanly beautiful, their features advancing over any human - bred organism. They all looked as if they were in high definition. Their wings even had a slight glowing tent to them in the sunlight. I hadn't noticed Talon's because the time I spent with her was spent in the dark. But I bet her wings glowed the most, gave off the most beautiful hue yet.
None of the women noticed me yet, but I knew that was because we were still on the border of the tree line. They seemed to be going about their daily routine. One woman with aquamarine wings was pinning up wet, freshly washed clothes on a cord that wrapped around two trees. Another was quietly sitting in front of an army green tent, sewing two slits in the back of a -shirt. I was confused for a second, wondering why the woman with grey and dark blue wings was sewing holes in such an odd place. But then I got it. Their wings had to go somewhere, didn't they? How practical. A few others were stirring a large pot of some sort of soup next to the river and what surprised me was that they were actually using cooking burners. I would have expected them to use a pile of sticks and a fire. Other women walked hastily fast with things in their hands such as weapons and food and tools. A few were sitting down and constructing the most beautiful wooden bows and arrows I've ever seen. A mother, probably no older than Talon, was breast feeding her infant daughter. She was the first to notice Galena and me.
The mother's eyes grew wide, and then furious. She stomped up to us, holding her baby in place. The infant child whinned and broke her grip on her mother's nipple. The mother slightly adjusted her child's head and the baby started sucking once more, content. I couldn't help but admire the child's angel-like wings. The mother caught me staring and scowled, holding her baby closer to her breasts, one exposed for the feeding, one covered. I averted my eyes immediately, but I was not staring for the reason she thought. I had never seen a new born with wings before.
"What in the hell did you drag him here for?" The mother yelled at Galena. "Humans are not -"
"Allowed in camp. I know. Believe me, I was prepared to kill the him, but Abira strictly requested I bring him. I have no idea why, so don't ask. Go on about your business. This doesn't concern you, Rayna."
I could tell the mother did not like being told what to do - I suspected none of them did with their independant attitudes - but she stomped off anyway, tossing her hair and disappearing behind the big mobile home.
A crowd of angry, curious winged women were beginning to form around us. It quickly evolved into an all out mob. Everyone was yelling out angry questions and death threats. It was obvious I was extremely unwanted here.
But Galena pushed on past them and I was for once thankful she had me in her grasp. I don't think I'd be alive if she wasn't practically pushing the women who wanted to kill me.
"Back off!" she yelled, pushing me through the crowd as if I were a shield she was protecting. "Move, Nautia. Angelia, I will kill you if you try that again. Get out of the way, people!"
They wouldn't listen to Galena. We were becoming over whelmed quickly. Hands were roughly grabbing at my clothes, others were in my hair. Galena towered over me with a fierce animal expression that read, "This meat is 'mine'!" And though I knew I was going to die pretty soon, I couldn't help but search the crowd for Talon. Was she even here? Where was she? I had no idea. I wished she was here. Maybe she'd help me. Would she fight for me?
Suddenly, the most strongest, most authoritive voice sounded like a bull horn, trumping the rest. "Stop! Back off of this boy! He will 'not' be harmed."
Everyone froze. Even I did. How could you not respond to a command like that, spoken from a voice that held so much power?
I finally did move - moved my head in the direction of the speaker. Abira was walking out of her mobile home, her head held high and mighty. She stopped at the end of the five wooden steps, directly in front of the mob desperately trying to kill me.
"Honestly," Abira chastised her people. "You girls act like animals. That is not how we conduct this type of situation."
"The male needs to die. He's seen us. He's not a war prisoner. There is no other decision to make," someone spoke up from the clustered crowd. I shivered. They were talking about killing me. Actually killing me. The reality set in and my hands began a steady trembling.
"I make the decisions," Abira snapped back so fast that she ran over the speaker's last words. "Back off, I said. I will decide what to do with this boy."
Every woman, except for Galena who had a tight grip on my hands, backed up at least a yard away from me at once.
Abira came off her last step and evaluated me. She circled my body completely, a hand to her chin. I stood perfectly still, my heart beating at a pace it's never beat before. Abira circled me once again, running a worn hand through my hair, before coming to a stop directly in front of me.
There was a low murmer amoungst the crowd. They hushed when Abira spoke again. "He will breed with our kind. The baby will be strong, I know."
The crowd cheered behind me. Galena laughed evilly and shoved forward. "He's mine," she grumbled. I shivered when I felt her teeth nip at my earlobe.
What? Breed? I don't think so! Not with her; she'd eat me alive!
"Wait! Oh God, please wait!" A beautiful, beautiful voice shrilled from the back of the crowd. Not just any beautiful voice - I'd know that voice from anywhere.
Talon, my darling Talon, sliced through the crowd frantically, stumbling to the front. Galena turned around and snarled. "Stay out of this, Tal. He's mine. I found him this time."
Talon shook her head. "But I saved-"
"I don't care what you did. You're the reason he came back here with a gun, ready to kill us all! He knows. Once he provides fertility, he's done. I'm going to kill him."
"I want him," Talon said, taking a step forward. "Let me have him, Galena."
Galena yanked me back from Talon. And I let her do it too. All I could do was stare into Talon's face. God, I've missed her. "No! Ive already claimed the stake."
Talon took another step forward. Her face grew dark, her hands balling up into fists. She was deadly serious now. Deadly. "Give him to me."
Galena took a step back, her gaurd down. "No." Everyone knew who was more powerful. Talon took another step forward. Galena took one back.
"Galena...sister. I don't want to fight. Just give him to me. You are not ready for motherhood."
         "And you think you are?"
Talon nodded, defiance flashing behind her stormy eyes. "Now more than ever." She was lying. The thought scared her; she had told me herself. Was she really ready to go that far to save my life? I supposed so. She was willing and already fighting hard to keep me away from her friend.
"Talon...something has changed about you. Its like you're a different person. Is it him? This human who is nothing compared to us?"
"Galena!" Talon shouted, her voice filled with so much rage Galena stepped back and let go of my hands, shoving me toward my one true love.
Talon took my wrist in her hand and electricity crackled through me. She tugged me toward Abira and the leader merely nodded her head and opened her mobile home door. I guessed this was where the sexual rituals were held.
The inside was very cozy and welcoming with the dark oak colors and browns and reds. Abira had an oak desk to the right and a couch to the left. Weapons were stocked up beside the desk and a working fridge held the food.
A long hall directly forward hosted several oak doors on either side. I didn't have time to admire much because Talon hastily pulled out a rolling chair and shoved me down in it. She gave me a parting glance before dashing out the door. I was left in the center of the room, glued to the chair. I wasn't going to get up. I'd wait for her until she came back.
Seconds past by...and then minutes. I found myself questioning my intentions. Am I really, 'actually' going to go through with this? Am I really, actually going to have 'sex' with Talon? Just the thought sent butterflies stinging in my stomach. I wanted her. I wanted to make her mine now and forever, but was I going to do it? God, I wanted to. I found myself imagining how it would be and I began to get aroused.
I jumped, my mind pulled out of the gutter, when the door suddenly opened again. Talon darted in and locked the door behind her, leaning back against it. She seemed distressed, as if she had been thinking this over. Her amazing wings fluttered behind her nervously.
I sat on the edge of my seat. "Talon...?"
She glanced up and, as if by magic, all of her stress melted away at the sound of my voice. She stood up straighter and sexily walked in my direction until she was towering above me with her arms crossed over her chest. She still seemed a little sad.
          "What's wrong, baby?" I asked.
"I...it's nothing. I just got done talking to my mother about this. She's worried you'll hurt me."
I gently grabbed her fingers and held them in my hands. "I'd never do that. You know I wouldn't."
She finally, finaly looked me in the eyes and she gently smiled. "I've missed you, you know? I missed you everyday. I always thought about you even when I should have been thinking about other things." She laughed to herself and my heart melted like it did the very first time I heard her laugh. "I just couldn't seem to get you out of my head. I never imagined you'd come back. Ive tried to tell myself I'd never see you again."
I nodded, running my thumbs in circles across the back of her hands. "I missed you too. More than anything."
She smiled. "I'm glad." She leaned down and braced her hands on either side of me, clutching the armrests. She was very close now. I sat statue still.
     "Are we going to...?"
She nodded. "I'm afraid we have to. I'm not letting Galena have you. She'll have to go through me first." I loved the protective note to her voice.
"Are you even ready?" I asked. I was nervous for her. I knew how nerve racking it could be for your first time.
But Talon seemed so confident. She wanted me just like I wanted her - and I loved it. The only answer I got back was a kiss. A sweet, sweet kiss. Her lips pushed gently against my own and I let my eyelids drop, drinking in the electrifying feeling of her kissing me, of even touching me, really.
She sighed against my mouth as I began to kiss her back. She responded by pressing her face closer, her lips becoming dominent.
I was completely overwhelmed with this insane desire to love her fiercely. I stood up, taking Talon into my arms and holding her close as she kissed me. She wrapped her arms around my waist and suddenly slipped her tongue into my mouth. I was surprised at first, but my initial reaction was to push back with my own tongue. I couldn't breathe. I didn't 'want' to.
Her hands dropped to my belt and circled around to the metal buckle. Her fingers sank in between my pants and my underwear.
I was afraid again that Abira was no longer here to protect me from Galena. The blond could change her mind and kill me now, suffering the consequences later.
No, she just roughly yanked me to my feet and pulled my hands behind my back painfully, forcing me to walk in the direction Abira went.
The Greek myth says that they were the most powerful women ever. In the ancient times, they were said to be a tribe of independent, mighty women who had rebelled against the men-dominated society. They used to live in isolate places, exclude men from their society and make wars against them. Today, we can call them as the first extreme feminists.
